The property has four rooms, two with attached bathroom and the other two are shared, all four rooms are well furnished with basic amenities such as clean linens, towels, soaps etc. They serve both local as well as simple North Indian cuisine, non-vegetarian is available on prior demands. Guests can engage and interact in daily activities of the locals, or go for guided village/ river sidewalks – or if one’s up for it, one can take a short trek to Talam, Lamo Andang, Kalep and Deothang.
This traditional homestay is quietly tucked between scenic mountains of North Sikkim. It is situated in Lachen, at an altitude of 9022 ft. and is the gateway to pristine, sacred lakes such as Gurudongmar and Tso Lhamu. The homestay is run by Tsewang and his wife – who is a wonderful cook; they aim to provide a unique experience of the local culture and their traditional lifestyle. Tsewang is a nature lover, who actively participates in the preservation of cultural heritage and is engaged in socio-environment conservation.
About the Location
Lachen is a small picturesque town in North Sikkim district of Sikkim. The literal meaning of Lachen means “big pass”- home to a population of 1000, Lachen has its own system of rules and regulations known as Dzumsa, which is head by Pipons and Gyenbos. Every summer, an annual yak race is held in Thangu, which attracts lots of tourists. Lachen is also the base camp for the two main trekking camps of Sikkim – Choptha Valley and Muguthang, and gateway to sacred lakes of the Great Himalayan Region – Gurudongmar and Tso Lhamu. The grandeur of the mountains and the simple, laid-back lifestyle of the locals can captivate you and take you back in time where the harmonious symbiotic relationship between nature and mankind was revered.
How to Reach
Bagdogra is the nearest Airport, on reaching the airport one can either opt for a chartered taxi or take a shared taxi that plies between Dzongu and Gangtok. Lachen is about 129 kilometres from Gangtok and can be reached via a six-hour road journey.
