The house was built in the early 1930s by late Sherab Lepcha, the great grand father of the present owner. He was the Muktiyar of King Tashi Namgyal and incharge of royal pvt estates and monastic lands of the north. The house was also his office where he and his few staff looked after civil suits which ensued from the estates he was incharge of. The house also holds two big rooms on the ground floor which was used as imprisonment of people after the civil suit. The house has a mixture of both Bhutia and Lepcha arcihtecture and is still standing in its original piece. It was recently renovated. Home-cooked, delicious food is prepared in a traditional Chula (local hearth) and guests will be able to savour a variety of Sikkimese local delicacies.

There is a large parking space outside and a small garden where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain views. This is a very unique place in the heart of Gangtok, close to the palace grounds. Highly recommended for guests who want to get an authentic experience of Sikkimese history and enjoy a comfortable, peaceful stay at a small distance from the crowded Gangtok Bazaar.
