Itanagar Facts
Itafort, ‘the fort of bricks’ from which the State capital derives its name, is situated in the heart of the Itanagar. The fort has an irregular shape, built mainly with bricks dating back to the 14th-15th Century of Mayapur of Ramachandra, a king of the Jitari Dynasty.

Lilabari airport in North Lakhimpur is the nearest airport to the Itanagar at a distance of about 57 kilometres. Lilabari airport receives regional Air India flights from Kolkata and Guwahati.
By Train
Harmuti railway station in Assam and Naharlagun railway station in Arunachal Pradesh are the closest railway to reach Itanagar, each at a distance of 34 kilometres and 15 kilometres respectively. Naharlagun railway station being a new addition to Indian railway has two rails running to and from like New Delhi - Naharlagun AC SF Express and Naharlagun - Guwahati Inter City Express.
