About the Guide: Mr. Monay Rai will be your tour guide. He is a registered Monastic Tour Guide with Government of Sikkim. He has over 5 years of monastic tour guiding experience and he has good knowledge about the history of Rumtek Monastery, Tibetan Buddhism and most other things related to various aspects of Buddhism.
Rumtek Monastery (the Dharma Chakra Centre) is a majestic Tibetan‑style gompa perched 24 km from Gangtok at about 1 500 m altitude. It’s the largest monastery in Sikkim and serves as the exiled seat of the Kagyu lineage, rebuilt in the 1960s by the 16th Karmapa who brought sacred relics from Tibet.
