Namchi Ropeway – A Scenic Ride Over South Sikkim’s Sky-High Beauty

Namchi, meaning “Sky High” in the local dialect, is the headquarters of South Sikkim, perched at an elevation of 4,314 ft. This charming Himalayan town is famous for its cultural landmarks, mountain vistas, and peaceful atmosphere. But beyond its well-known attractions, Namchi has another gem worth experiencing — the Namchi Ropeway.

A Unique Way to See Namchi

As you ascend towards the iconic Guru Padmasambhava statue at Samdruptse, you’ll find the ropeway waiting to take you on a breathtaking six-minute journey across the landscape. The ride glides over lush hillsides, offering panoramic views of the Khangchendzonga range and the deep valleys below.

The ropeway connects Samdruptse Hill with the Rock Garden, a tranquil escape filled with indigenous flowers, manicured lawns, and mountain backdrops. From Rock Garden, you can either ride back or enjoy a scenic 15-minute uphill walk back to Samdruptse.
