About The Tour

You can travel with us for a majestic journey to Sandakphu, West Bengal's highest mountain, in a 1960's Land Rover, that will be both a unique and stunning experience. Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu, four of the largest global highest peaks, can all be viewed from the top. You'll also travel to Phalut from Sandakphu, from which you'll have the best mountain views Mt. Kangchenjunga. The grandeur and power of the rocky mountains will enchant and awe you. It appears as though you can reach out and touch the summit since it is so near. It is more comfortable yet exciting to travel from Maney-banjang (near Darjeeling) to Sandakphu in the Land Rover. Next day, you will be travelling from Sandakphu to Phalut. You will get some stunning views of the mountains there. Your trekking begins on the third when you descend from Phalut to Gorkhey. And then on the fourth and final day, you descend to Srikhola and drive to Darjeeling from there.

Darjeeling to Sandakhpu
Day - 1

Darjeeling to Sandakhpu

The day start with a trip from Darjeeling to Maneybhanjyang – a settlement of Darjeeling at the edge of the Indo-Nepal border at approximately 7000 feet and located an hour from Darjeeling town.

The actual drive to Sandakhphu starts from this point where we switch vehicles onto the old popular Series I ‘Land Rovers’. Let the adventure begin!
Drive to Sandakhpu will take approximately 2-3 hrs. depending on stops. The route is steep- at places near the top at almost 60 degrees! Arrive by lunch at Sandakphu.

Sandakhpu to Phalut
Day - 2

Sandakhpu to Phalut

Today we take the long and very bumpy ride to Phalut – One of the highest point in West Bengal at the Singalila Range located at approximately 11800 ft. The drive is off road and one will notice very few other vehicles except the local Land Rovers make this journey – The drive is definitely an adventure in itself and the views are stunning to say the least!

There are very few places where one can witness the Khanchendzonga and its family of ranges on one side and the Everest Family on the other side!

Driving time 2-3 hrs.. depending on stops. Afternoon explore the area on foot and get better acclimatized. Phalut is an open beautiful ridgeline and besides the views one can find a lot of small trails around to explore and find a quite space!

Phalut to Gorkhey
Day - 3

Phalut to Gorkhey

The trek portion begins from here onwards to Gorkhey. This is a rapid descent and is a lush verdant section with Pine, Rhododendron giving way to oak and chestnut. The trail is roughly 15 kms and should take approximately 5 hrs. Trekkers usually speak of some stress on the knees for this downhill adventure. 

Arrive at your rest stop at Gorkhey for the night.

Gorkhey to Srikhola and onwards to Darjeeling
Day - 4

Gorkhey to Srikhola and onwards to Darjeeling

The final push of the trek portion is a mix of some climbs and then descent to the final settlement of Srikhola. This would be approximately 16 kms. and take you about 5 hrs. The trail is failry okay and not as steep like the previous days sections. The vehicle will be waiting for you at the base to take you for the return journey to Darjeeling.
