The quaint little town of Kaladhungi in Choti Haldwani region at the foothills of Himalayas has a special significance. Jim Corbett, the famous hunter cum conservationist transformed this village into an ecological friendly village. The town is situated at a distance of 26 kilometers from Haldwani in Nainital district of Uttarakhand on Haldwani-Ramnagar road. Kaladhungi town is located very close to Corbett National Park in Ramnagar of Uttrakhand With the gigantic mountains in the backdrop and lush green fields flanked by dense forests; Kaladhungi is a paradise for a nature lover as well as a natural habitat for several species of flora and fauna in the region.

Kaladhungi has been immortalized due to the stark presence of hunter and conservationist Sir Jim Corbett who lived very close to the village. In his memory a village eco trail has been created in Kaladhungi that stretches almost several kilometers through the forestland at the foothills of the Himalayas in the plains. Choti Haldwani where Jim Corbett uses to stay is a thrilling place to pursue several activities like bird watching and listening to the chirping melody of several avian species, trailing pug marks left by tigers inside the eco trail, tracking deers’; it’s once in a lifetime opportunity. The trail continues up to 2 hours in duration spanning 3.5 kilometers.

The Heritage Trail is conducted and supervised by village folks and expert commentators who shed light about Corbett’s experience, adventures and contribution to develop this village in the Kumaon range. 

Best Time to Visit: 
October – March: Pleasant, cool weather — best for sightseeing and outdoor walks.
April – June: Warm but still nice if you want to avoid hill station crowds (Nainital gets packed).
July – September: Monsoon brings lush greenery but also slippery roads — travel with caution

Light woollens (Oct–Mar), cottons (Apr–Jun), raincoat/umbrella (Jul–Sep).

Kaladhungi Facts

Kaladhungi derives its name from Dunga or black stone or proportion of iron found in the stone which is abundant in the region. The region was once a popular iron foundry factory which was made from forest charcoal and iron ore found in Kaladhungi and surrounding regions.

Corbett lived barely 2 kilometers away from Kaladhungi in Choti Haldwani and had a very emotional anchor attached to the village.
