If you are someone who craves raw, untouched nature and an offbeat travel experience, Mawu Aando Waterfall in the remote Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh should be on your bucket list. Towering nearly 500 feet in height and tucked deep within the hills near Acheso, this breathtaking waterfall is a natural marvel few have witnessed.
Mawu Aando Waterfall is located approximately 50 kilometers from Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley district. It lies en route to Bruni, just 3 km past Acheso/Chigu Camp, a well-known local base for nature and adventure lovers.
The road to the waterfall is an adventure in itself—cutting through thick forests and winding mountain paths. A small signboard near a bridge will guide you to the start of a 300–400 metre trek, which is relatively short but incredibly scenic.
The trek begins under a canopy of towering trees, with the forest floor rich in wild ferns, moss, and the earthy fragrance of wet soil. The well-maintained trail offers a delightful walk, often accompanied by birdsong and the rustling of leaves. As you approach the site, the distant roar of cascading water grows louder—hinting at the majestic sight waiting ahead.
Once you arrive, prepare to be spellbound. Mawu Aando Waterfall cascades down in 11 massive steps, descending from a sheer height of over 400 meters. The water sparkles in the sunlight, creating a misty spray that cools the air and adds an ethereal charm to the setting. It’s nature’s own amphitheater—silent except for the powerful roar of falling water and the whispers of the surrounding forest.
The ideal time to visit is October to December, just after the monsoons, when the waterfall is at its most powerful yet the trails remain accessible. The weather is crisp and the skies are often clear, allowing for uninterrupted views of the hills and distant snow lines.
Guests can stay at Chigu Camp which is very close to Mawu Aando Watefall. It is a good idea to book your stay at Chigu Camp in advance through OurGuest as it gets sold out quite fast and there is no network at the camp.
