Dong Valley, located in Arunachal Pradesh, India, is a picturesque region known for its stunning natural beauty and geographical significance. Dong is situated at a confluence of Lohit and Sati rivers and is the easternmost village which is said to receive the first sun rays in India. At an altitude of 1240 metres, Dong is placed at a strategic location of tri-junction of three countries namely, India, Myanmar and China.
Dong is about 7 kilometers from Walong town and is accessible via a short trek. The village is primarily inhabited by the Meyor tribe, along with members of the Mishmi tribes, which include the Idu Mishmi, Digaru Mishmi, and Miju Mishmi. The peak near Dong is a popular trekking destination where visitors often hike in the early hours to catch breathtaking views of the sunrise over the mountains. The Dong Valley trek is a notable attraction, allowing tourists to experience the first rays of sunlight hitting Indian soil. Trekkers typically start their journey around 2:30 AM to reach the viewpoint by sunrise. The trek is characterized by steep paths through lush pine forests and offers stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. You will also be going for a day visit to Kaho and Kibithu, which are the last Indian villages right at the Chinese border.
