Best Time to Visit:
Due to its massive variations in altitude, Sikkim boasts of high altitude meadows, valleys of rhododendron, and one of the richest diversity of orchids. The Months of March to May will have a mix of the retreating winter and onset of summer. Hence we are looking at cooler mornings and evenings of about 10 degrees centigrade and day temperatures of about 15-18 degrees. Of course, sunny days will be warmer.
Clothing:
A warm cardigan with a light jacket windproof or even waterproof is great. Comfortable shoes always recommended.
These months will be warmer throughout Sikkim though the higher areas above 9000 ft will of course still be cooler at about 15 degrees. The summer months are ideal for enjoying great deals with hotels and transport services as the crowds are lesser. Average temperature will range at about 25 degrees.
Clothing:
A light cardigan for morning and evenings, comfortable walking shoes and a rain jacket/umbrella if possible.
This period is known for some of the most beautiful mountain views and clear skies. With an average temperature of 18 degrees, it is also one of the best times to head outdoors.
Clothing:
A warm cardigan with a light jacket windproof or even waterproof is great. Comfortable shoes always recommended.
These months will be considerably colder especially December end through to January. The areas under 9000 ft would be in the range of 5-10 degrees centigrade and higher altitudes in north Sikkim could be in the negative. Winter is an excellent time to come and enjoy peace and tranquility and for those willing to brave the cold, the snowbound areas can be great fun.
Clothing:
Warm Cardigans and warm jackets are a must. Caps/Beanies are also recommended with gloves. Comfortable walking shoes, rain is usually not much of an issue in these months.
