Sonada Facts
Sonada was one of the first places where Tibetan Refugees settled down after being exiled from Tibet. It has a Magnificent Monastery, a residency for young Tibetan Scholars and a Government aided school for Tibetans which is also open for students from other communities.
Sonada Monastery, Samdrub Darjay Chöling, is a monastery located in Darjeeling, India. It was founded in 1966 by Kalu Rinpoche in a formerly Geluk monastery. He established a three-year retreat center at Sonada. It served as Kalu Rinpoche's primary residence and as the international seat of the Shangpa Kagyu tradition. Sonada offers a tranquil retreat with opportunities for cultural exploration and natural beauty

By Air
The nearest airport to Sonada is Bagdogra which is approximately 55 km away from the city. From the airport, one can reach the city by hiring taxis. It will take almost 2 hours to reach Sonada from the airport.
By Train
The nearest railway station to Sonada is New Jalpaiguri which connects the city with all the major parts of the country. People can hire private or shared cabs from the station to reach Sonada which is about 59 kms journey.
By Road
Sonada is well connected to some of the major cities close by such as Siliguri and Darjeeling which are located at a distance of 49 km and 17 km respectively. The city is also connected with Kolkata which is 623 km away and it takes around 14 hours to reach here.
